8 weeks Mindfulness Course (MBCT)

Mindfulness

This mindfulness programme is an 8-week course made up of weekly 2-hour sessions. It includes the essential elements considered key in mindfulness training: Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Participants will develop insight into their emotions, thoughts and sensations, becoming less caught up in habitual response patterns. Simple techniques like sitting meditation and gentle movement help to become more focussed, aware, relaxed and present.

The course will include mindfulness meditation practices, gentle stretches and movement, group discussion, home practice assignments, and guided audio practices. There is also a full-day retreat that will include a selection of soothing practices, a silent lunch, an afternoon of meditation and tea. The course includes meditation audios and a workbook.

Researchers and participants have reported the following as benefits of mindfulness training:

Each week, participants are given homework, including practice of the exercises taught in the classes, taking 30-45 minutes per day. Students will get the most from the course if they are able to make this commitment to home practice. They will learn to bring mindfulness into their daily life, whether walking to work, eating breakfast or taking a shower. The homework will help to integrate the practices in their life so that they can continue to develop mindfulness skills once the course has ended, leading to lasting change.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, MBCT is included in the NHS NICE guidelines and is increasingly used in therapeutic practice. It is specifically useful in dealing with Stress, Anxiety and Depression.

Dates: Mondays 7.30 – 9.30pm:  25/02, 04/03, 11/03, 18/03, 25/03, 01/04, 08/04, 15/04 and Full Day Retreat 10am-4.30pm 07/04

The full day retreat will be held in Washington Village Hall

Fee: £110 – £90 Early bird (booking before February 11th)
